Recreation Aide- The Department has openings for seasonal and full-time positions working with youth. Applicants must be at least 16 years old. Salary begins at $8.33 per hour. Sacramento Lifeguard Academy- Are you looking for that perfect summer job where you can help people, make a difference in the community AND have fun? Then being a lifeguard is the job for you! City lifeguards are eligible for cash bonuses and free, continuous CPR and 1st Aid training, not to mention uniforms, food, and discounts on swim suits! The Aquatics Section offers lifeguard training opportunities for people 15 years and over. If you want to be a lifeguard for the Summer 2008, it’s not too early to start planning! The cost of the class is $100. You must attend all days of the course. Please note that some classes are on weekends, weekdays (spring break schedule) or weekday evenings. ($100 fee will be reimbursed to persons who pass this course, apply to work for the City of Sacramento and SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE the season.) Don’t wait until June to train to be a lifeguard! Landscaping and Lighting–Employment- Recruitment for Youth Aide training positions through the “Vocational Training and Life Skills Program” begins the first week of March and closes the last Friday in April. Applications will be available at all city Community Centers. These are eight-week paid positions for youth between the ages of 14-17. Youth must reside within the City of Sacramento city limits. WIA Youth Program–Employment- WIA is a year around vocational training and life skills program for high school students ages 16-19. There are six major components to the program: Work readiness including paid work experience, mentoring, leadership development, community service, life-skills and educational support. The program will assist youth in being productive, connected, and contributing members of their communities. Specifi c skills youth learn through practical experience include: how to maintain employment, build a resume, interview techniques, the ability to work as a team, and employers’ expectations in the work place. To enroll candidates must meet the following criteria: be between the ages of 16 and 19, working towards completion of diploma or GED, enrolled in independent studies, facing barriers to education and employment, live within the City of Sacramento, and have economic needs.
